I’m obsessed with light… morning light on a countertop, backlight behind wrinkled smiles, golden hour on anything, candlelight, dappled light, and especially that lavender color in the twenty minutes between the sun disappearing and darkness.
I’ve been a photographer and filmmaker for almost 20 years, and am based in the Columbia River Gorge, conveniently situated between Seattle and Portland. I went to the Art Institute in Seattle in 2006, and lived there until 2024 when we decided to move to White Salmon, WA. I grew up in a tiny town in northern Wyoming, so it feels like coming home to be a part of a small community again.
As a DP, something I do well is to shape the natural light that’s already there, but have also enjoyed creating the illusion of sunlight pouring in through a window. It’s been a privilege getting to work with teams on larger sets, creating more curated and carefully lit imagery. But what I really love is collaborating with smaller teams where I’m able to participate in the creative process start to finish, acting sometimes as a producer, director, camera op, audio engineer, and editor. My goal is to make observant, intimate, documentary style work where it feels like the camera has disappeared entirely.
